Kuwait Towers

The State of Kuwait, commonly known as Kuwait, is a monarchy located in the northeastern part of the Arabian Peninsula in West Asia and on the northwest coast of the Persian Gulf. It borders Saudi Arabia to the south, Iraq to the north, and Iran across the sea. It was once a British protectorate and became independent on June 19, 1961.

Souk Al-Mubarakiya is the perfect place to go! It looks like a traditional, old-fashioned market, with a wide selection of scarves, tea sets, perfumes, and produce to buy.

Construction of the Kuwait Towers began in 1973 as part of a water supply project in Kuwait operated by the Swedish engineering company VBB (now Sweco). At the time, the company's chief architect, Sune Lindström, had built five typical mushroom-shaped water towers, the Kuwait Water Towers. However, Kuwaiti Prime Minister Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah wanted a more attractive sixth tower. Lindström and his Danish wife, Marlaine Bjorn, also designed several designs and submitted them to Jaber, who selected the final project, awarding it to the Yugoslav construction company Energoprojekt. The towers were completed in February 1979.
