Taipei, the capital of Taiwan, traces its origins back to the establishment of Taipei Prefecture during the Qing Dynasty. It was officially established as a city in 1920 during the Japanese colonial period. Following the defeat in the Chinese Civil War in 1949, the Republic of China (ROC) government retreated from mainland China to Taiwan, where it continues to effectively rule.

With Taiwan's recent efforts to promote liberal democracy, fostering a Muslim-friendly environment is also a persistent goal of the government.

In Taipei City, we're recommending halal restaurants by MRT line, centered around Taipei Main Station. Starting with the Green Line, which runs approximately 20.7 kilometers from Songshan to Xindian, most tourists head to Ximending for accommodation and shopping, especially at night. Ximending Station is just one stop away from Taipei Main Station, boasting a wide variety of restaurants offering cuisines from almost every corner of the world. The second stop, Xiaonanmen, also boasts a Moroccan restaurant. Below is a list of the best restaurants in Taipei.

1. Zhāng-Halal Yellow Beef Noodle House (MRT-Ximen Station)

Founded in 1957, this restaurant boasts over 60 years of history, preserving the traditional flavors and providing decades of nostalgic fare, making it a favorite among gourmets. Their food is Halal-certified, and all meat is beef. They are known for their beef noodles, half-pound and half-meat noodles, beef dumplings, and beef potstickers.

Zhang's Beef Noodle House originally started out as a corner stall in front of the train station. After 1949, as the Kuomintang government fled Taiwan, the area around the train station became a hub for street vendors, eventually relocating to Boai Road. Zhang's Halal Yellow Beef Noodle House was originally run by three Shandong soldiers. The second generation grew up and branched out, eventually moving to its current location on Yanping South Road.

Open for over 70 years, it has amassed a loyal following. The name "halal" stems from the owner, a devout Muslim, who adheres to the Quran in the selection of ingredients and cooking procedures. The beef was generously chunked and tender, the noodles were chewy, and the braised broth was rich, mellow, and delicious.

2. Mouna Halal Restaurant (MRT-Xiaonanmen Station)

The next stop in Ximending is Xiaonanmen, an 8-minute walk away from a unique Moroccan and Indian restaurant. Their garlic flatbread is very fragrant and can be paired with beef hummus, tomato and spiced meatballs, Mediterranean roasted eggplant salad, or curry, etc. The interior decoration is Middle Eastern style. Their restaurant is Halal-certified, so it is absolutely authentic.

Ali, a Pakistani, has been in Taiwan for 20 years. He started as a small vendor selling exotic cuisine at the Nanjing West Road roundabout and Ningxia Night Market, and finally opened a shop on Nanjing East Road. Their signature dish is their rich curry, a uniquely Indian specialty. They employ a specially hired Indian chef, using oven and spices sourced from their homeland, creating authentic Indian cuisine. Besides spices and ingredients imported from Pakistan and India, their cooking adheres to traditional methods, meticulously executing every step. No wonder this place is not only a great place to satisfy cravings for home-cooked food, but also attracts Taiwanese food addicts.

Not only does it offer delicious Indian cuisine, but it is also a long-term recommendation of the Muslim Tourism Association (MTAT) and fully meets the "4 Muslims Recommended" standards.

6. Raohe Street Night Market

The last stop of the MRT Green Line is Songjiang Station. There is a famous Raohe Street Night Market here at night. When you come here at night, you can go shopping and eat delicious food. As long as it is grilled chicken, grilled lamb skewers, grilled beef skewers, fried stinky tofu... as long as you like it, you can buy it and eat it, but be sure to ask the boss what kind of meat it is, because there are all kinds of food here.
